What the New IIT Entrance Norms Mean for Aspirants

A panel of experts from the Ministry of Human Resource Development has suggested a new method of selecting IIT-JEE candidates. This could be a significant shift in admissions to some of the country’s top engineering institutions. Students from CBSE schools will have an advantage in such situations over students from other State boards. School teachers may exploit students who are enrolled in their subject areas under a new scheme. To get higher marks on their practical's and board exams, students may have to receive tuition from some teachers. We ask, "What is the alternative?" Instead of trying to eliminate coaching centers from the face of Indian academics, MHRD officials and school authorities, as well as coaching center owners, and the IIT JEE body, should come together and devise a long-term solution.
